When Bethesda launched the re-releases earlier this year, a required login caused headaches for offline players. It looks like a log-in will be required to browse and download these add-ons. Hopefully Bethesda will support more than just these three add-ons-while it’s probably not worth holding your breath for Chex Quest on Switch, it’d be great if the still-active Doom mod scene on PC could see some of its work come to the console releases. Leavey and Boyle confirmed that owners of either Doom or Doom 2 will be able to play these add-ons even though the Final Doom map packs utilize features elements exclusive to Doom 2. The former two packs comprise what id Software released as Final Doom in 1996, while Romero independently released Sigil for Doom’s 25th anniversary earlier this year.
So far, the only map packs confirmed for the update (which is “coming soon”) are TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, and Doom co-creator John Romero’s Sigil. Bethesda has announced that its modern console ports of Doom and Doom 2 will receive free support for installing select add-ons in a future update.īethesda community managers Jason Leavey and Joshua Boyle debuted the new add-on feature at around the 49-minute mark of today’s Doom anniversary Twitch stream.
